Tirage d’essai sur Arches d’une des plus belles gravures surréalistes réalisées par Salvador Dali pour l’édition Skira de 1934 des Chants de Maldoror.

Une annotation au crayon dans la marge inférieure indique que ce tirage fut réalisé avant le découpage du cuivre.

"An assemblage of two spoons, two chops, twos roses, and a bone, a replica of an earlier engraving, produces the illusion of a face. Pinned to it is an apple borrowed from the William Tell myth. Dali "devours" past art works, including his own in assembling and disassembling their images he brings his allucinations into perspective."
